The August death of a Los Altos bicyclist in Woodside has resulted in a vehicular manslaughter charge against a 52-year-old Half Moon Bay motorist, the San Mateo County prosecutor's office announced last week.

Lloyd Michael Hopkins of Half Moon Bay has been charged with one misdemeanor count of vehicular manslughter for the August 12 death of bicyclist Bradford Nohejl on Kings Mountain Road, said Steve Wagstaffe, chief deputy district attorney.

Mr. Hopkins, who could face up to a year in jail, was was charged with only a misdemeanor because no gross negligence was involved, Mr. Wagstaffe said.

At about 12:45 p.m. August 12, Mr. Hopkins was driving a van on Kings Mountain Road when, after veering into a ditch, he overcorrected and slammed head-on into Mr. Nohejl, authorities said.

Mr. Nohejl was taken to Stanford Hospital where he was pronounced dead of multiple trauma injuries.

An arraignment is scheduled for December 22.
