Timothy Fidge & Co., custom jewelers in Town and Country Village shopping center in Palo Alto since 1979, plans to move in April to downtown Menlo Park.

The new location will be 642 Santa Cruz Ave., between El Camino Avenue and Chestnut Street. It was previously occupied for two years by Light Point, which is now at 846 Santa Cruz Ave.

The 2,200-square-foot space will be remodeled and enlarged.

"Santa Cruz Avenue is being referred to as the hot spot on the Peninsula with one-stop shopping, and we want to take advantage of more foot traffic, plus we felt it was time for a change," says Marilyn Fidge, the company's owner.

A fixture in Palo Alto since 1976, first on Hamilton Avenue until 1979, and since then in its present location, the business was started by Ms. Fidge's husband, Tim, who died in a small-plane accident in 1989. First called Gold Fever, the store's name was changed in 1985.

In a large manufacturing area at the Town and Country store, three goldsmiths make about 70 percent of the gold and platinum jewelry the company sells, said Ms. Fidge. Outside suppliers are used to provide complementary pieces.
