Graduation 2001: Woodside High School

With the girls in white gowns and mortarboards and the boys in Wildcat orange, the seniors will march to their places on the football field while the Woodside High School Band plays Edward Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance." The band, under the direction of Steven Anderson, will then play the national anthem.

Serena Hinckson, senior class president, will welcome the parents and guests and then introduce student speaker senior Nick Siekierski. He has chosen "Giving Back to the Community" as the title for his speech, which reflects the theme for Woodside High's 43rd graduation. Salvador Lara will present the class gift to the school.

This year Woodside has three valedictorians: Tina Lee, Nicolene Miljanich and Megan Richards. Keeping with Woodside's tradition, the valedictorians will speak at graduation after being introduced by Principal Linda Common.

Principal Common will present the graduating class to Superintendent JoAnn Smith of the Sequoia Union High School District. She will present the diplomas to the graduates, assisted by Ms. Common.

Keeping another tradition, seniors will take turns reading the names of the graduates. The readers include: Monica Aguiniga, Jaime Danielian, Erin Davenport, Lauren DeLaRosa, Noelle Fetkenhauer, Corine Harper, Mary Hoyer, Andy Kellogg, Endira Lara, Deanne LaTorra, Claudia Lopez, Traci Matheson, Stephanie Morgan, Triana Murtagh, Jenna O'Neill, John Parsons, Carolyn Phillips, Michael Porter, Jose Rodas, Kevin Sanchez, Jesse Smith, Lucy Torres, Belinda Topete and Iris Valdez.

Serena Hinckson will then lead her classmates in the symbolic switching of the tassels on the mortar boards from left to right, signifying their graduation.

Everyone is invited to join the graduates for refreshments, pictures and visiting after the ceremony.

The graduates will return to Woodside High later to board buses that will take them to an undisclosed location for their Grand Night party.
