Designing women (and men) at Canada College 'Artistry in Fashion' Designing women (and men) at Canada College 'Artistry in Fashion' (October 24, 2001)

Clothing and accessory designers from throughout Northern California will gather Saturday, October 27, at Canada College in Woodside for the 10th annual "Artistry in Fashion" sale.

The event, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Student Activities Center, is a showcase for some 50 designers, including Karin Moggridge of Woodside, who will offer everything from jackets and dresses to jewelry.

The event is sponsored by Canada College's fashion design department. A fashion show is new to this year's event.

Clothing and accessories for women, men and children will be shown by the person who made the item, says Ronda Chaney, who has coordinated the fashion design department since 1978.

Handmade sweaters, handwoven clothing, vintage evening wear, coats made from kimono and obi, accessories, jewelry and handbags, will be among items for sale. "This is different than what you see off the rack," says Mrs. Chaney, "not the stuff of chain stores and shopping malls."

Canada fashion design students range in age from 18 to 40. The college offers classes in pattern making, fashion draping, business, illustration, and how to be an entrepreneur.

At the "Artistry in Fashion" sale, a $5 donation will be collected at the door to be used for student scholarships, new equipment and library materials.

Food and refreshments will be available for purchase and parking is free. Canada College is located at 4200 Farm Hill Blvd., Farm Hill and Interstate 280, in Woodside. For more information, call 306-3370.
