Two Portola Valley residents were recently appointed to town committees by the Town Council.

Former council candidate Douglas Aikins was appointed to the Public Works Committee. Among committee members' duties is being on call to perform emergency work when needed. Mr. Aikins currently serves on the Geologic Safety Committee.

Jeannette Fowler will join the Cultural Arts Committee, which is charged with the task of increasing the cultural awareness of residents. Its long-term goal is to establish a cultural arts center in town.

Portola Valley maintains a relatively small town staff of 11, a volunteer council and Planning Commission, and 15 volunteer committees that take on everything from maintenance of the town's far-flung trail system to planning for emergencies.
