Election 2002: Larry Hassett runs for open space district board seat
(July 17, 2002) Skyline resident Larry Hassett says he will run in November for a full four-year term representing Ward 6 on the board of directors of the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District.
Ward 6 covers Menlo Park, Atherton, Portola Valley, Woodside, portions of Redwood City, and nearby unincorporated areas up to Skyline.
Mr. Hassett, owner of Palo Alto Hardware, was appointed two years ago to fill the vacancy created when Director Betsy Crowder was killed in a freak automobile accident on Portola Road.
The open space district is a public agency that has preserved 46,500 acres of open space along the Bay and in the hills, since it was formed in 1972. These lie in 26 open space preserves between San Carlos and Los Gatos. The district's current major project is a proposal to annex some 140,000 acres of the San Mateo County Coastside from the southern boundary of Pacifica to the Santa Cruz County line.
Residents of Ward 6 interested in running for the seat must file with the District Clerk by 5 p.m., Friday, August 9, at 330 Distel Circle in Los Altos.
For information, call Sally Thiefoldt at 691-1200.
