Three candidates for three seats in Atherton Three candidates for three seats in Atherton (August 21, 2002)

It's up to the Atherton City Council to decide whether to bother with holding an election this fall. Only three candidates have filed to run for the three available seats on the City Council, said City Clerk Sharon Barker.

Council members are scheduled to decide at the August 21 meeting whether to go through with an election anyway, or cancel it and simply appoint the candidates to council seats in December, she said. The town budgeted about $5,000 to pay for election costs, she said.

Incumbents Alan Carlson and Bill Conwell, along with Charles Marsala, a member of the town's Park and Recreation Commission and Arts Committee, were the only three people to file for candidacy by the August 14 deadline. Incumbent Didi Fisher chose not to run.
