Police Calls Police Calls (December 11, 2002)

This information is from the Atherton and Menlo Park police departments and the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. Under the law, people charged with offenses are considered innocent until convicted.
Atherton

Drunken driving: Ashley Baker, 20, of San Carlos, was arrested December 5 on charges of drunken driving at the intersection of El Camino Real and Tuscaloosa Avenue at 2:15 p.m. She was taken to the First Chance Alcohol Rehabilitation Center in Belmont.

Fire: Students were evacuated at 3:30 p.m. December 5 from Menlo Hall at Menlo College after a plastic waste basket caught on fire. Officials at the school put out the flames with a fire extinguisher. No one was injured.

Fraud: A resident in the 100 block of Faxon Road reported a loss of $1,700 via sales fraud on the Internet December 3.

Vandalism: The vehicle of a student at Menlo College in the 1000 block of El Camino Real reportedly had fluid poured over it, causing the paint to peel off on December 3.
Menlo Park

Drunken driving reports:

** Antonio Gomezfierros, 20, of Redwood City was arrested on charges of drunken driving at the intersection of U.S. 101 and Woodside Road at 1:30 a.m. December 1. He was booked into county jail.

** Isaac Hockett, 54, of East Palo Alto, was arrested on charges of drunken driving at the intersection of Bay Road and Ralmar Avenue at 3:25 a.m. December 1. He was booked into county jail.

** Adam Alaniz, 20, of Watsonville, was arrested on charges of drunken driving at 1:15 a.m. November 30 in the 1100 block of El Camino Real. He was booked into county jail.

Phillip Deering, 27, of San Mateo, was arrested on charges of drunken driving at 2:20 a.m. December 4 at the intersection of Willow Road and U.S. 101. He was booked into county jail.

Possession of an unlawful weapon: Spencer Ledwith, 39, of Redwood City, was arrested on charges of possessing an unlawful weapon at 1:45 a.m. November 30 in the 1100 block of Willow Road. He was booked into county jail.

Spousal abuse: Arnold Martinez, 36, was arrested on charges of spousal abuse at 4:15 p.m. December 1 in the 200 block of Hedge Road. He was booked into county jail.

Commercial burglary: Musie Yohannes, 32, a transient, was arrested at Kepler's bookstore at 1010 El Camino Real, after Kepler's employees reportedly caught him shoplifting December 4 at 11:15 p.m. He was booked into county jail.

Fraud: Fraudulent charges on the credit card account of a resident in the 800 block of Coleman Avenue were reported December 4 at 1:15 p.m.

Vandalism reports:

** At 2:50 p.m. December 1, a resident in the 1300 block of Carlton Avenue reported that a window of their home was reportedly shot with a BB gun.

** A rock was reportedly thrown through the window of a residence in the 300 block of Chester Street November 30 at 1 a.m.

** A broken window was reported at a business in the 500 block of Oak Grove Avenue at 11:15 a.m. November 30.

Grand theft: Property was reportedly stolen from a vehicle in the 700 block of Laurel Street on December 4.
Portola Valley

Identity theft: It was reported on November 20 that on September 18 someone transferred money into a fraudulently opened checking account from the checking account of a resident in the 200 block of La Mesa Drive.
