(December 17, 2003) Watch your step -- or foot on the pedal -- along El Camino Real on Friday, December 19.
Officers will be holding a sobriety checkpoint in the 300 block as part of an annual crackdown on people driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Checkpoints typically start between 7 and 9 p.m. and run until 2 or 3 a.m.
Law enforcement agencies all over San Mateo County will also be keeping a sharper eye out for impaired drivers through New Year's Day.
No Scrooges on Menlo staff
Their city budget may be squeezed, but employees of the city of Menlo Park racked up $27,682 in charitable donations during a recent campaign coordinated by assistant city manager Audrey Seymour.
Made by 139 employees, the donations are up 256 percent over last year's campaign, city spokesman J. Michael Gonzales said. The money will be given to Community Health Charities and United Way to be distributed to different agencies aiding people in need.
Meetings canceled
The December 23 and December 30 Menlo Park City Council meetings have been canceled for the holidays.
