M-A students stage quirky drama
M-A students stage quirky drama
(January 28, 2004) M-A senior Ben Bellamy is directing Menlo-Atherton High School students in Neil Simon's comedy/drama "Lost in Yonkers," to be performed at 8 p.m. January 29, 30, and 31 and February 5 and 6 in room C-16 on the M-A campus.
The Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning play follows two brothers forced to live with their formidable grandmother for 10 months at the beginning of World War II.
Ben selected the play because he wanted to "work outside of the typical high-school drama realm." He also says he wanted a smaller and more intimate play to go between M-A's two major productions for the year, "Othello," and "Little Shop of Horrors," which has already been cast for shows in April and May.
The "Lost in Yonkers" cast includes Matt Sachs, Ben Gullard, Lisa Ratner, Mallory Ortberg, Hugo Decker, Clay Elliott and Lara Laidlaw. Jenni Brandon and Ian Teter are understudies.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students. For more information or to reserve tickets, call 322-5311, ext. 8686.
