Menlo School students direct one-act plays Menlo School students direct one-act plays (January 28, 2004)

Three seniors at Menlo School get a chance to try their directing skills as they tackle some funny and fascinating one-acts, continuing the Menlo tradition of the student-directed one-act festival in February.

Students Naomi Frank, Caitlin Morrison and Hailey Agnew will present their plays on Thursday, Friday Saturday and Sunday, February 5-8, at 7:30 p.m. and at 3 p.m. on Saturday in the school's Florence Moore Auditorium, 50 Valparaiso Ave. in Atherton.

Naomi Frank, assisted by Kirthi Malladi, directs a classic French absurdist comedy by Jean Anouilh, "Episode in the Life of an Author." Students in the cast are Zack Minor, Julie Davidson, Nelson Chen, Sam Zats, Kameran Johnson, Katie Augustus, Laura Yost, Lucy Stark, Lizzie Adelman, Noelle O'Reilly and Am Warner.

Caitlin Morrison tackles a comedic dating dot-com Christmas party in "English Made Simple," by David Ives. On stage will be Nelson Chen, Jacquie Lew, Kate Hawkins, Holly Burian, Gilad Gray, Lisa Miracchi, Mara Schleck, Eli Callaghan, Noelle O'Reilly, Calvin Johnson, Mike Pearson and Catherine Martin.

Hailey Agnew of Palo Alto directs a classic commedia del'Arte-inspired play about love and deception, "The Wonder Hat," by Ben Hecht and Kenneth Sawyer Goodman. Alex Powar is the assistant director with a cast that includes Haley Horowitz, Alex Kvamme, Donnell Tachis and Jennifer Mitchell.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. They may be purchased in advance at the Menlo School bookstore or by calling 330-2001, ext. 2535.
