Since he was 10, Michael Fonti, a junior at Woodside High School, has wanted to be an Eagle Scout. This year he achieved his goal.

Michael, a member of Pacific Skyline Council Boy Scout Troop 149, had to earn 21 merit badges, serve as a leader in his troop, and complete a major community service project.

His project took place in parts of Portola Valley, Menlo Park and Redwood City. Michael's crew of 12 scraped and repainted 321 sewer drains with the label, "Do Not Dump, Flows to Bay."

The son of George and Sophia Fonti, Michael is also a member of the Woodside High School Jazz Band and Concert Band.
