Batter up for Alpine Little League season
Baseball season for the Alpine-West Menlo Little League kicks off with opening-day ceremonies starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 27, at Ford Field on Alpine Road in Portola Valley.
The league's nearly 700 players, from tiny tots in T-ball to the great strapping teenagers in the seniors division, are invited to attend.
Before the first game of the season between defending Majors champions Stanford Park and MCA starts at 11 a.m., the 2003 All-Stars will be recognized and the league's volunteer of the year will be honored.
Fifth annual run for Zimbabwe orphans
The Sustainable Living Foundation, a nonprofit charitable corporation,
will sponsor the 5th annual run for Zimbabwe orphans on Sunday, March
28, from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Joseph School in Mountain View. The
event benefits orphans whose parents have died of AIDS. There will be
10 races in all and the funds raised will go to the Makumbi Children's
Home in Zimbabwe. For information, go to www.sjmv.org.
