A man was arrested and charged with attempted vehicle theft March 10 shortly after a local resident spotted two people breaking into a vehicle in Atherton. The resident called 9-1-1 and after a search, a Menlo Park police dog found a suspect hiding in the back seat of a car just blocks away.

Arrested was Eloi Castro-Diaz, 20, of Redwood City, said Officer Scott Mackdanz of the Menlo Park Police Department. Another suspect was still at large.

The vehicle break-in occurred in an Atherton driveway near the intersection of Encinal and Garwood avenues around 3 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, police said.
