Community notes: Affordable health care topic of library program
(April 28, 2004) "Affordable health care for all Californians" will be the topic of a lecture and slide presentation by Hubert Morel-Seytoux at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 1, at the Menlo Park Library.
Mr. Morel-Seytoux, an Atherton resident, is director of the Mid-Peninsula chapter of Health Care for All-California, a nonprofit group that lobbies state legislators and communicates with the public to build support for its efforts. Those efforts are aimed at creating a health-care system that provides affordable, accessible and high-quality health care to all residents of the state.
Free van service to the lecture is available for Menlo Park seniors and those with disabilities. For more information, call 330-2512 or contact Robert Roth at roth@plsinfo.org.
'Walk for Ben'
Construction at Burgess Park in Menlo Park may be displacing some athletes, but the "Walk For Ben," a May 8 event honoring a young Atherton boy who died of leukemia, will still go on nearby.
The day will include a barbecue on the patio of the Burgess Recreation Center, and a 2.5-mile walk through the area, covering Alma Street, Laurel Street and Ravenswood Avenue, organizers said.
The family of Benjamin McGovern, who died in 1999, three months before his third birthday, aims to remember him by raising $250,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Other events scheduled at Burgess are being moved due to the major construction work there, which includes revamping the playing fields and parking area.
Registration for the May 8 walk begins at 10:30 a.m., with the walk at 11 a.m.
