Classical meets folk at a chamber music concert featuring pianist Josephine Gandolfi of Menlo Park this Saturday, May 1.

The concert is set for 8 p.m. at the Palo Alto Arts Center, 1313 Newell Road, at Embarcadero.

In addition to Ms. Gandolfi, performers will be Susan Brown, violin and viola; Karen Andrie, cello; and mezzo-soprano Wendy Hillhouse.

The program will include Irish and Scottish folksong settings for voice and piano by Beethoven; songs by Vaughan Williams; a fantasia for piano trio on Irish music by Frank Martin; pieces for piano trio by Bruch, which include Romanian folk-music themes; and the premiere of a new work for piano trio by David Meckler.

The four musicians have worked together frequently, and have performed and recorded music by many local composers, including the late Lou Harrison.

Admission to the concert is $14, general; and $12 for students and senior citizens. Tickets will be available at the door. For more information, call 463-4940.
