Home-building rules issue could come to vote by Menlo council May 11 Home-building rules issue could come to vote by Menlo council May 11 (April 28, 2004)

Rather than continuing to delay a decision on the fate of controversial home-building rules until June, the Menlo Park City Council on April 20 unanimously agreed to schedule the vote as soon as possible, at the suggestion of Mayor Lee Duboc. Ms. Duboc said the date would probably be May 11.

The rules, approved by the council in January, were put on hold by a successful referendum petition, which requires the council to either rescind the rules or have the city's voters decide whether to do so. The referendum petition was certified at the end of February, but the council opted to delay making a decision on the rules' fate, infuriating opponents of the rules.

Now Ms. Duboc says that she has talked with many residents and that most want to see a citywide vote on the matter. A detailed staff report comparing the new rules with current residential zoning law is available at www.menlopark.org.
