Agreement on traffic, parking for Woodland School
Agreement on traffic, parking for Woodland School
(June 30, 2004) Ladera residents hope that traffic and parking problems irritating neighbors of Woodland School will improve thanks to a new agreement worked out between the school and the Ladera Community Association (LCA).
The San Mateo County Planning Commission on June 23 approved the agreement in the form of two new conditions to the school's use permit. This had been continued from April 28 to allow the school and neighbors to work out a compromise. The new regulations will last until the school's use permit comes up for renewal in December 2005.
The Woodland School, a private school serving pre-school through eighth-grade students, leases the former Ladera School on La Cuesta Drive from the Las Lomitas School District.
The agreement, which was approved by the Ladera association on June 2, says:
** Parking will be limited to the school parking lot, and the school side of La Cuesta Drive, except for 12 major school events. For other major events, such as the Halloween carnival and science fair, the school will notify neighbors and the Ladera Community Association, provide traffic monitors, and try to work out problems.
** The school will promote carpooling to reduce the number of trips to a target number, designate three traffic monitors to help manage peak morning and afternoon traffic, and appoint a community liaison to handle questions and complaints with neighbors and the Ladera Community Association.
"Hopefully the community can work things out with the school and neighbors," said Rob Decker of the Ladera association. "We'll be back in 2005."
