Comments sought on Edgewood Park Interpretive Center Comments sought on Edgewood Park Interpretive Center (July 28, 2004)

Plans for an interpretive center and other improvements at the entrance to Edgewood County Park and Natural Preserve are moving forward, with hopes that groundbreaking may take place next summer.

The San Mateo County Parks Department is seeking comments from the public on the environmental report, which explains the plans and their impacts. Anyone interested may attend a public hearing Thursday, August 5, at 2:45 p.m. or later, in the Board of Supervisors Chambers, 400 County Center (corner of Hamilton Avenue and Bradford Street) in Redwood City.

The proposed Interpretive Center, where park visitors can learn about the native wildflowers that brush the park with color every spring, will be located at the Stage Coach Road Day Camp Area near the park entrance on Edgewood Road east and down the hill from Route 280.

Other proposals include improvements to the parking area, a new pedestrian bridge across Cordilleras Creek, a water tank, and habitat restoration along the creek.

The environmental report (negative declaration) may be downloaded from www.eparks.net. Written or e-mail comments may be directed through August 9 to Park Planner Sam Herzberg or sherzberg@co.sanmateo.ca.us.

For more information or questions, call Mr. Herzberg at 363-1823. For information on fundraising for the project, call Julia Bott, executive director of the San Mateo County Parks and Recreation Foundation, at 321-5812.
