Strong disagreement over campaign tactics

Editor:

Toni Stein was a two-time candidate for Menlo Park City Council in the past two local elections. Kelly Fergusson, who is now running for City Council herself, was Stein's campaign manager.

In my opinion, both of these people must be well aware of campaigning rules but have chosen to disregard them.

Just one week into campaign season we see Ms. Stein, a supporter of Kelly Fergusson, campaigning illegally on Oak Knoll School property and we see Ms. Fergusson's signs illegally placed in the public right-of-way at Gilbert and Willow Roads. Can we expect continued disregard for the rules by Ms. Fergusson as the campaign momentum increases?

The campaigns have to be self-policing. We don't want our precious police resources to be expended on compelling City Council candidates to observe the law. I call on all candidates to comply.

Downtown merchants need some help

Editor:

On a recent Sunday evening there was an event in Los Altos entitled "A taste of Los Altos Village."

Tell me, what has Menlo Park's business development manager down for our downtown? Anything?

Oh, we are getting a Presbyterian meeting room and a hardware store. It is about time that the city stops falling back on its heels from the assaults of no growth types like current and former Planning Commissioners Kelly Fergusson and Patti Fry.

The downtown area needs some care and feeding. Among the candidates for City Council, only Michael Lambert and Lorie Sinott will address the needs.
