Ground-breaking for skate park Ground-breaking for skate park (September 22, 2004)

The following information was published in the Almanac's print edition with two photographs taken by Almanac photographer Carol Ivie:

A vast swath of dirt is a dream come true for Menlo Park resident Kyle Camarillo (pictured above, left, and at right), who swung a shovel September 14 with community services director Curtis Brown (center) and Mayor Lee Duboc to break ground for a long-planned skate park. Mr. Camarillo, 20, has been pushing for a park since he started gathering petition signatures in the seventh grade. "It's been a long journey," he said, beaming, at the groundbreaking. Located at Burgess Park, the 15,000-square-foot skate park is expected to be finished in about six months, complete with bowl and ramp features.
