Four die in crash near Woodside
(September 29, 2004) California Highway Patrol investigators are still trying to determine why a car traveling southbound on Interstate 280 on Saturday afternoon drifted off the roadway near Woodside Road and crashed, killing all four occupants.
The accident occurred at around 5:30 p.m. September 25, when the Toyota sedan driven by Leandro Tam, 73, of Daly City, left the roadway and went down an embankment.
San Mateo County's chief deputy coroner, Tom Marriscolo, said an autopsy indicated that Mr. Tam had not suffered a medical problem that would have caused the accident. All four victims died of blunt injuries, he said.
The other three victims were Mr. Tam's wife, Kelly Tam, 63; and Canadian citizens Maria Tcheu, 72, and Gun Kee, 64, according to the coroner's office.
Three of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Ms. Tam died later at Stanford Medical Center, according to the CHP.
Alcohol and drugs do not seem to be involved, the CHP reported.
