Portola Valley PTA: Talk on character education
(September 29, 2004) Portola Valley PTA launches its parent education series on Tuesday, October 5, with speaker William Damon, professor of education and director of the Center on Adolescence at Stanford University.
Mr. Damon will talk about why children need a sense of higher purpose, and how parents and teachers can help.
The free talk starts at 7:30 p.m. in the multi-use room at Corte Madera School, 4575 Alpine Road in Portola Valley. Residents of neighboring communities are invited.
Mr. Damon is a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution. His most
recent book is "Bringing in a New Era in Character Education" (2002). His current research explores how young people develop character and a sense of moral purpose in work, family and community relationships.
