Woodside High alumni game marks opening of new gym Woodside High alumni game marks opening of new gym (November 03, 2004)

It'll be a new gymnasium but old home night for basketball playing alumni from Woodside High School on Friday, November 12, when stars from teams of 1996 through 2003 play this year's varsity squad, the same team that won the 2003-04 Peninsula Athletic League championship.

The game, set for 7 p.m., marks the grand opening of the new 1,700-seat gym and its first alumni-varsity basketball game.

Along with the game will be music by the school band, performance by the school's dance team, a silent auction, prize drawings, souvenir T-shirts, refreshments, and surprises.

Radio personality Renel -- from the KISS Morning Show -- will welcome fans and introduce participants other than the alumni, who will be introduced by Rich Kelley, a former Woodside all-star who went on to play 11 seasons in the National Basketball Association.

Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students with a PAL sticker, and $2 for children 12 and under. Advance tickets are available by calling 574-7591; tickets will also be available at the high school treasurer's office and at the door.

Proceeds support the Woodside High School boys basketball program. The program fosters student achievement, teamwork, physical fitness, and "builds friendships that will last a lifetime," said coach Darrell Barbour. Donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 7485, Menlo Park, CA 94026-7485.

Sponsors of the event include Clear Channel Communications Inc., Comcast Cable, M1 Agency of Los Angeles, and Nike. For more information, contact Roberta Roth at 365-2418 or rlroth@rcn.com.
