Hardbacks for a buck at Woodside book sale
(November 03, 2004) By Kate Daly
Special to the Almanac
The early bookworm gets the great finds at the upcoming used book sale at Woodside Library.
Come to the parking lot at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 6, right when the sale starts, and you will have a chance to pick up special collections, such as a 20-volume set called the "Nobel Prize Library."
Coffee table books will be available, such as "Life, Our Century in Pictures," "Antarctica" by Eliot Porter and "The Masterworks" by Frank Lloyd Wright.
These books have higher prices than the hardbacks, CDs and videos -- boxes and boxes of them -- that sell for $1 each. Paperbacks, audiotapes and records sell for 25 cents each.
Year-round, the Friends of the Woodside Library collect bestsellers, romance novels and books on children's fiction, reference, foreign language, self-help, gardening, travel, and cooking -- plus CDs, videos and cassettes for all ages.
Twice a year the Friends volunteers sell off the materials to raise money to put on children's programs -- such as puppet, animal and magic shows -- authors' evenings, and cultural events, such as Armenian Night, Persian Music Night, and a Geisha exhibit talk.
Proceeds from the sale also go to buy the Friends' collection of best-selling titles, and support free Internet classes on Saturdays.
Refreshments will be served until the sale ends at 4 p.m. The library is located at 3140 Woodside Road, Woodside.
