Councilman Ed Davis will gavel the Portola Valley Town Council meetings to order in 2005, much as he did in 2002 during his first term on the council. Mr. Davis was elected mayor at the council's December 8 meeting.

The new vice mayor is Councilman Steve Toben, who is in his second year of his first term on the council.

The mayor's job is largely ceremonial, and includes chairing the council meetings. The vice mayor steps in when the mayor is absent.

The five-member council elected Mr. Davis and Mr. Toben on 4-0 votes, with Councilman Richard Merk absent.
