Arrogant of Steve Jobs to demolish Jackling house

Editor:

I read in last Sunday's New York Times that Steven Jobs wants to demolish the historic Daniel C. Jackling house in Woodside.

It is unbelievably arrogant of Mr. Jobs to deem this house an "abomination," especially when, according to his biography, he does not have an architecture degree that would qualify him to make such an evaluation. It is also ironic, not to mention infuriating that he would characterize the house as "poorly built" when the fact that it is standing (despite his years of neglect) is a clear testament to its soundness.

Mr. Jobs could choose to take the noble route by preserving this historic house, and at the same time, leaving a legacy. Instead, he is brazenly flaunting his financial prowess to build a monument to himself, and at the same time, upsetting his fellow Woodside residents, and those of us living in other states who care about historic preservation.

I hope that a very well-heeled preservation-minded citizen will step up to the plate and save this California treasure.

Samtrans board diversity is needed

Editor:

Is Daly City the only city in San Mateo County?

The Board of Supervisors seems to think so as there are now four members of the Samtrans advisory board from Daly City. One of them is Supervisor Mike Nevin, who virtually appointed himself to the position.

I think it's time for certain supervisors to realize that they can't do whatever pops into their heads. San Mateo County has a large population and we need more than one city represented on the advisory board. A former Supervisor is not a citizen advisor. He is someone who is taking advantage of his position.

Let's diversify the advisory board by the "appointment" of citizens who represent other parts of the county rather than allowing a supervisor to claim a seat by his own "proclamation."
