Portola Valley designers enter chair in auction
(February 23, 2005) It's based on a young boy's concept
Portola Valley interior designers Robert W. Miller, Jony Schwartz and Beth Armijo turned a young boy's visions into a dream chair that was auctioned off at a recent Sweet CHAIRity event for the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Society.
The chair added $850 to the total of about $50,000 raised at the event, held in October at the San Francisco Design Center.
The designers are with Miller/Dolezal Design Group, located at 3000 Alpine Road in Portola Valley. It is among 15 firms that volunteered to work with a child whose family has benefited from the Child Abuse Prevention Society.
"In June, we met a wonderful boy -- Deshon -- who was full of energy and ideas," said Ms. Schwartz. "We had a ball working with him to create the concept for the chair."
It's called the All Weather Chair because it is covered with Deshon's renderings of the outdoors, including a starry night, a rainbow-filled blue-sky kind of day, and a winter storm.
The showroom Wroolie & Co. in San Francisco donated work to make the chair, said Ms. Schwartz.
