Portola Valley theater group to stage 'Fiddler on the Roof'
(March 23, 2005) The Portola Valley Theatre Conservatory returns after a three-year sabbatical in April with a production of "Fiddler on the Roof."
All performances -- Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 8-10 and April 15-17 -- begin at 7:30 p.m. in Lane Family Hall at Valley Presbyterian Church, 945 Portola Road in Portola Valley.
"An exciting development is this production has been totally underwritten by families and community members," said Cheryl Goodman-Morris, executive director of the conservatory and associate pastor at the church.
All ticket revenues, estimated to total $20,000, will go to two nonprofit groups: Peninsula Habitat for Humanity and the children's division of the Portola Valley Theatre Conservatory.
"'Fiddler' is the story of people you fall in love with because of the family ties and bonding as well as the traditions that give us our identity as a community and a people," said Ms. Goodman-Morris.
She is co-directing the production with Hunt Burdick, who has a professional theater background and has directed local productions.
This intergenerational production has a 53-member cast of all ages, similar to the conservatory's last production, "Music Man."
Tickets are now on sale for all performances. They are $40 for reserved seats, $20 for general admission, and $10 for children under 12.
In the past, tickets have sold out before opening night. For tickets, call producer Karen Russell at the church office, 851-8282, ext. 104.
