Ask the officer
(March 30, 2005) Menlo Park police officer Glenn J. Raggio answers questions about the police and law enforcement. Call 330-6396, or e-mail: asktheofficer@menlopark.org. Q. If a pedestrian waves me through in front of him while he is in the crosswalk, is it a violation if I proceed before allowing the pedestrian to cross?
A. The right course of action is to encourage the pedestrian to cross the crosswalk ahead of you; however, if the pedestrian insists that you drive on through, do so carefully. Often the attention you show that particular pedestrian can distract your attention from another.
