Choral group premieres new works Choral group premieres new works (March 30, 2005)

Two world premieres will be included on a wide-ranging program that also includes works by Debussy, Barber, Britten and Hindemith as the San Francisco Choral Artists presents an April 1 concert in Palo Alto.

The choral group, directed by Magen Solomon of Menlo Park, will perform at 8 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 600 Colorado, at Middlefield.

The Choral Artists will premiere Maia Aprahamian's 'There shall come forth ... ," with text from Isaiah, and Charles Griffin's "Rekviem," with text by the Russian poet Anna Akhmatova.

The program also will include Britten's "Reincarnations"; Einojuhani Rautavaara's setting of Lorca's "Blood Wedding"; Randall Thompson's "Alleluia"; and Roger Nixon's "Visions," on a text by Wordsworth.

The Choral Artists is made up of 24 Bay Area singers, including several Menlo Park and Woodside residents. The group has premiered a number of works in its 20 years of performing.
