Human services director to retire
(March 30, 2005) Maureen Borland, the director of the San Mateo County Human Services Agency for 13 years, plans to retire in July.
She's had a 35-year career in health and human services in three states. During her tenure, San Mateo County received commendations and awards for its handling of welfare reform, financial education programs and child welfare.
"Improving the lives of children and families is my passion and I have been blessed to have the opportunity to lead efforts to redesign services and improve outcomes for children," Ms. Borland said.
Under her guidance, San Mateo County was the first in the state to implement welfare reform and was one of five counties selected by the state for a pilot program to redesign the child welfare system.
