Five 'Charming Cottages' on house tour Five 'Charming Cottages' on house tour (April 06, 2005)

"Charming Cottages," the annual house tour sponsored by the Palo Alto Area Mills College Club, will be held Friday and Saturday, April 15 and 16.

Five houses -- dating from the 1920s to the 1970s and ranging from traditional to modern, with some updated and remodeled -- will be on the tour in Palo Alto from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The tour is a benefit for Mills College students.

Each home is shown as it is lived in by its owners -- without the usual "staging" for a tour event, said committee member Jane King of Menlo Park. All the homes have a viewable garden and patio.Local architects, designers and builders were involved in each project.

Tickets, which may be used either day of the tour, are $25 through Friday, April 8, and $30 after that date or during the event. They may be purchased by calling 325-2990. Tour-goers will need a car for transportation, and they may need to remove their shoes in some houses.

Barbara Hunter of Menlo Park is chairperson for the event. Jane Yates of Portola Valley is the president of the Palo Alto Area Mills Club.
