Officials meet on train horn noise
Horn noise will be the hot topic of the afternoon on Wednesday, April 6, when a group of city officials who meet on rail issues will talk about train-fueled din.
The Mid-Peninsula Rail Working Group will meet from 1 to 2 p.m. in the second-floor
administration conference room at Menlo Park's City Hall, 701 Laurel St.
Chris Payne, Caltrain's safety officer, will address the group on horn
noise. The meeting is open to the public.
Collegiate crew classic
Hundreds of collegiate and community rowers will converge at Redwood Shores Saturday and Sunday, April 9 and 10, for the third annual Windermere Collegiate Crew Classic.
The event has about 130 races with 18 college teams, including Stanford's, and other community and high school teams competing.
Spectators may watch the races from the banks of Redwood Shores from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

Bair Island Aquatic Center in Redwood City will host an open house on Saturday, April 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The free event is open to anyone who wants to learn more about rowing, sculling, paddling and kayaking, says Fiona Ashley, president of the center. For more information, go to gobair.org.
Journalist to speak
The Middle East correspondent for the Independent newspaper in London will bring his Baghdad experiences to Palo Alto on Sunday, April 10.
Robert Fisk will talk on "Baghdad: The City that Dreams of Death" at 7:30 p.m. in the Spangenberg Theater at Gunn High School, 780 Arastradero Road. Tickets cost $10 to $20. It's a benefit for Peninsula Peace and Justice Center. For more information, call 326-8837.
