Short Takes Short Takes (April 06, 2005)

"Hi, this is the Almanac. Are you Stinky?"

No, we haven't hired Triumph the insult comic dog to answer the phones. Mary Forman, the Almanac's always gracious receptionist, was making sure she'd dialed the right number for Stinky's plumbing.
Yep, it's been a wet one

According to the rain gauge Bill Russ keeps in his backyard, it's been an impressively wet winter. The Menlo Park resident says he's collected 21.45 inches so far this rainy season, which runs July 1, 2004, through June 30, 2005.

Last year he logged 14.5 inches of rain for the entire season, and 21.55 inches in 2003, he says.
Youngsters face taxing array of careers

On April 15, local kindergartners will face a taxing question: What do I want to be when I grow up?

From 9 to 11:30 a.m. on that Friday morning, Canada College will host its fourth KinderCaminata. Some 1,500 kindergarten students will have a chance to meet more than 50 professionals who will talk about the importance of a college education.

Among the professions to be represented are scientists, teachers, firefighters, police officers, lawyers and television producers, a college spokesman said. The event is sponsored by FullBloom Baking Co. of Menlo Park.

Canada College is located at 4200 Farm Hill Boulevard in Woodside. For more information, go to canadacollege.net/kindercaminata or call 306-3340.
Quote of the week

"I actually like passing laws that won't make sense to people 20 years from now, because turnabout is fair play. We need to pass the buck." -- Woodside Mayor Paul Goeld's tongue-in-cheek response to Pete Sinclair at the March 8 Town Council meeting. Mr. Sinclair warned his council colleagues against drafting legislation that would confuse future generations of town officials.
