Middlefield market to reopen after remodel

After an extensive remodel, the old Buy & Save Market in Menlo Park is scheduled to reopen as The Willows Market around the end of this month.
Owner Brad Boushey, who bought the market at 60 Middlefield Road in January, says he's done work inside and out, including repainting and tile work and adding a new soup and sandwich bar, custom produce coolers and an upgraded meat counter.
He plans to offer a full deli and catering service, as well as seating for lunch. "We'll hopefully have a Peet's Coffee espresso stand out front with chairs," he added.
Mr. Boushey estimates the construction costs of the remodel will come to around $200,000.
Buying the market seemed like a natural move for Mr. Boushey, who says his relations have deep roots in the food and drink world. His family owns Boushey Vineyards in the Yakima Valley in Washington state, where they grow merlot, syrah and other kinds of grapes.
"I've been a California wine distributor for the last few years," he said.
A resident of Pleasanton, Mr. Boushey says he plans to move to Menlo Park with his family.
The market has been a fixture on Middlefield just south of Willow Road for many years. Mr. Boushey said he did some research and learned that it was started in 1954 by several brothers.
