Woodside royal wee ones ready for May Day parade Woodside royal wee ones ready for May Day parade (April 27, 2005)

Flowers are blooming, the days growing longer, the kindergarten Royal Court has been chosen -- it can only mean it's time for Woodside's annual May Day festivities.

Held on Saturday, May 7, May Day kicks off with a Fun Run at 7:30 a.m., followed by a pancake breakfast at the Woodside Village Church from 8 to 10 a.m., sponsored by the Rotary Club of Woodside and Portola Valley. A donation of $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 is suggested -- proceeds from the pancake breakfast will go to buy dictionaries for third-graders.

For those who prefer their carbohydrates deep-fried, coffee and doughnuts will be for sale at Woodside Elementary School.

Parade registration begins at 9 a.m. in front of the school office, and the parade itself gets underway at 10 a.m. The theme this year -- the 83rd, for those keeping count -- is "Surfin' Safari."

As always, the May Pole and Sword Dance, performed by the third-graders, will be held in the school's amphitheater following the parade, and the Citizen of the Year award will be presented. A barbecue ($7) and carnival follows on the school grounds.
St. Raymond run to raise funds

St. Raymond School in Menlo Park hopes to top last year's fundraising total $25,000 in its eighth annual "Run2Fund" on Wednesday, April 27, at the school.

More than 200 students are expected to jog -- for a grand total of 1,200 miles -- to raise money for new computer and technology facilities at the school.

Each mile will be sponsored by family, friends and many local small businesses. Students will compete for prizes awarded for the most money raised and the fastest laps.

Contributors include: Palo Alto Sport Shop, CIT Sports, MS Orthodontics, Interdecor, Assured Relocation, Down Syndrome Society, and Scott Kaloust, D.D.S.

To become a sponsor, call 323-2607 and ask for Catherine. For more information about St. Raymond School activities, visit straymond.org.
