A cappella group performs at Sacred Heart A cappella group performs at Sacred Heart (May 11, 2005)

Sacred Heart Preparatory's a cappella quartet, Pulse, will perform Jason Robert Brown's "Songs for a New World" on May 21 and 22 in the new Campbell Center for the Performing Arts at the Atherton school.

Pulse members are seniors Sean Kranz of Atherton, bass-baritone; Emily Borromeo of Los Altos, alto; Nic Rouleau of Los Altos, tenor; and Nicole Villeneuve of Los Altos Hills, soprano.

Since they formed the group as freshmen, they have sung frequently at the school and around the Peninsula, often including a message about the importance of arts education. Their arts-education efforts led to an award last year from the Rotary Club of Menlo Park.

"Songs for a New World" is a revue of 16 songs. The four singer-actors portray characters in a show that, as Mr. Brown describes it, is about "hitting the wall and having to make a choice: take a stand or turn around and go back."

Sacred Heart Preparatory is at 150 Valparaiso Ave. in Atherton. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 21, and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 22, in the school's Campbell Center. Tickets cost $8 for adults and $5 for students and SHP faculty. To order, call 968-6480.
