New Woodside theater opens
(May 18, 2005) Theater lovers can come and meet those dancing feet -- or spot a singular sensation -- at a musical revue celebrating the opening of the new performing arts center at Woodside High School.
Fifty high school students will sing, dance and perform dramatic monologues in "Celebration of Theater: A Musical Revue," scheduled to run May 19 to May 22 in the new 500-seat space. Performances will be at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The lively songs will come from several Broadway shows, including "42nd Street," "West Side Story" and "Guys and Dolls." In between the song-and-dance numbers will be monologues light and serious, representing plays such as "Brighton Beach Memoirs" and "The Diary of Anne Frank."
Woodside students seeing the show will also get an added kick: They'll get to watch school teachers and administration performing in a special "A Chorus Line" section, said Karen Arimoto-Peterson, a Woodside Elementary School teacher who's doing publicity for the show.
Students and staff are thrilled to have the new $15 million theater, Ms. Arimoto-Peterson said. Besides the main stage, the facility also has a spacious rehearsal room with its own curtain and lights, which can be used for smaller performances.
Tickets to the revue are $15 for general admission and $10 for students and seniors. The school is located at 199 Churchill Ave. in Woodside.
For tickets, call the school treasurer's office at 367-9750, extension 4319. Tickets may also be purchased at the door.
