Menlo Park: Neighbors appeal two-story home to council Menlo Park: Neighbors appeal two-story home to council (May 25, 2005)

A two-story home project in the Willows neighborhood of Menlo Park has engendered protest from neighbors, who have appealed its Planning Commission approval to the City Council.

The property at 510 Central Ave. holds a single-story, single-family home. Owners David Chu and Irene Lawrence are seeking to tear it down and build a new 2,800-square-foot house with a detached garage and workshop, senior planner Tracy Cramer wrote in a staff report.

Several neighbors have appealed the March 28 Planning Commission approval. Most say the home is incompatible with the neighborhood, which has mostly one-story homes. All voice concern about having a nearby alley be the sole access to the home's parking, Ms. Cramer wrote.

The council is scheduled to take up the issue May 24; the meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the council chambers at 701 Laurel St. To read the staff report, go to menlopark.org, click on "City Council" and go to the May 24 agenda.
