Deadline nears for parcel tax exemption
People 65 or older who own and live on property in the Las Lomitas School District and want to opt out of the $196 annual parcel tax approved by voters in November 2001 have until Wednesday, June 1, to apply for the exemption.
For the 2005-06 school year, school district officials estimate parcel tax revenues of $786,000. That money will be used to supplement operating costs in the two-school district, including maintaining small class sizes, paying staff salaries, providing academic assistance for students who need it, and providing support for education technology and elective classes, including science, music, art and foreign language.
The Las Lomitas district includes parts of Menlo Park, Atherton and Woodside and unincorporated areas, including Ladera.
To apply for the tax exemption, call the district office at 854-6311. Application forms are also available from the district office at 1011 Altschul Ave. in Menlo Park.
