Bay area architect Paul Adamson will give a free lecture and Power Point presentation on his book, "Eichler: Modernism Rebuilds the American Dream," at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 4, at the Menlo Park Library.

The book combines architectural history, a character study of businessman Joseph Eichler, and photographs by Ernest Braun.

Mr. Adamson has a master's degree in architecture from Columbia University. He is a designer at the San Francisco firm of Hornberger + Worstell Inc.

Improv trio stages benefit at Menlo School

The comedy improvisational group called "3 for All" will perform Friday, May 27, at Menlo School as a benefit for the school's drama department.

Tim Orr, one of the three comedians, is the brother of Elizabeth Orr, drama teacher at Menlo School.

"You'll never laugh harder," Ms. Orr promises. The group will hit the stage with no script, no format, no preconceptions and no safety net, she says.

The trio -- Rafe Chase, Steve Kearin and Mr. Orr -- will go on stage at 5 p.m. in Florence Moore Auditorium on the Menlo campus, 50 Valparaiso Ave. in Atherton. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the door.

Jim Shelby, musician and drama teacher at Gunn High School, will provide musical accompaniment.
USGS lecture on Sonoran Desert

Gila monsters, saguaro cactus and invasive grasses of the Sonoran Desert will be featured in a public lecture Thursday, May 26, at 7 p.m., at the U.S. Geological Survey, Building 3, at 345 Middlefield Road in Menlo Park.

Research ecologists Cecil Schwalbe and Todd Esque will present and discuss the survey's 2003 video "Sonoran Desert: Fragile Land of Estremes."

Jobs for Youth breakfast May 26

Three young workers will be honored at the Jobs for Youth annual fundraising breakfast Thursday, May 26, from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Radisson Villa Hotel, 4000 S. El Camino Real in San Mateo.

Jobs for Youth seeks to help young people 14 to 21 in San Mateo County become good workers, and to connect them to jobs. Tickets are $40 each. Proceeds go to job programs for youth in San Mateo County.
