Fun, games on tap for town picnic Fun, games on tap for town picnic (June 01, 2005)

The Portola Valley town picnic is set for Saturday, June 11, at the Town Center at 765 Portola Road.

The race from Rossotti's Field to Little People's Park at Town Center -- known as Zots-to-Tots -- brings together walkers, runners, cyclists and scooter wranglers. Race registration opens at 9 a.m. at the Alpine Inn at 3915 Alpine Road, with the race itself starting at 10 a.m.

For the $10 registration fee, each racer receives a numbered racing bib, a T-shirt and a bottle of water. Family discounts are available.

The picnic, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Town Center, includes food and drinks for sale, musical entertainment, a car show, games and a carnival.

Bianchini's Market will supply the barbecue, with drinks, cotton candy, snow cones by the Boy Scouts. The Brownies will run the bake sale. Or you can bring your own food.

For the young kids, a climbing wall, dunk tank and moon jump will be available. At 1:30 p.m., town librarians will perform "musical story time" in the Historic Schoolhouse. Space will be limited.

Other outdoor activities include electronic basketball, face painting and lawn games.

In the parking lot in front of the schoolhouse, the owners of notable cars will gather with their vehicles for a show-and-tell that starts at 11 a.m. A couple of vintage race cars are expected.

Musical entertainment from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. will be provided by the East Bay jazz band The Nate Pruitt Group, with vocals by Nate Pruitt.

The official picnic T-shirt is from a design by Alexa Wolf, Ali Wentzel and Beth Polash, all of Corte Madera School.

Volunteers helping with picnic preparations this year include the Community Events Committee, the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, the Brownies and Girl Scouts, the Parks & Recreation Committee and local schools.
