Special to the Almanac
The Mounted Patrol of San Mateo County is expecting to round up hundreds of Western music and cowboy poetry fans from all over the Bay Area on Saturday, July 23, for a barbecue and live entertainment at the Mounted Patrol property at 521 Kings Mountain Road in Woodside.
The barbecue starts at 5 p.m. and the show at 7 p.m.
The lineup again includes Mounted Patrol member Buckaroo Bob Weber, the original organizer of the event, and Sourdough Slim, a.k.a. Rick Crowder, a comedian who has performed as far away as Carnegie Hall.
For the first time, Paso Robles poet Virginia Bennett will read from her collection.
The Lost Canyon Rangers -- featuring Skeeter Mann, "Miss Lindalee" Green, and Scotty Van Salter -- will also perform.
Tickets are $15 for the show at 7 p.m. Barbecue chicken, beans, salad, and garlic bread will be served for an extra $10 starting at 5. Tickets are available at the gate or by calling 851-9570. Up until July 10 there's the option to buy five admissions and get a sixth person in for free.
Proceeds benefit such charities as the National Center for Equine Facilitated Therapy and the sheriff's STAR program.
