Beautiful weather welcomed the return of the Little League city championship game to Burgess Park on July Fourth, with the top Majors division teams from the two local leagues -- Alpine/West Menlo and Menlo-Atherton -- facing off.

Lutticken's, representing the M-A league, edged Hengehold 3-2 at the new Tom Harrison Little League Field at the Menlo Park Civic Center.

Lutticken's struck for a run in the first as Chace Warren drove in John Athens with a single.

Hengehold responded with two runs in the bottom of the first. Jonathan Friedman and Jordan Winawer both singled, and each scored on fielder's choices hit by Jesus Gomez and Tabor Edwards.

Lutticken's tied the game in the third when Warren again drove in Athens with a single, and put together the game winner in the fourth when John Braskamp reached on a single and scored on a bases-loaded walk.

Nick Henze made all three defensive putouts for Lutticken's in the bottom of the fifth.

Lutticken's survived a last-inning rally by Hengehold to earn a well-fought win on a beautiful day.

Winning pitcher was Casey Eason. In five innings, he struck out four and gave up five hits. Chris Bell came in for Lutticken's in the sixth to close out the game for the save.

Hengehold pitchers were Louis McCabe and Jesus Gomez.

Lutticken's had six hits with singles by Athens, Warren (two singles and two RBIs), Tom Schertler, Braskamp and Kyle Wallau.

Hengehold's hits were singles by Jonathan Friedman (one RBI), Jordan Sontag, Gomez and Louis McCabe.
