Woodside Village Church hosts potluck
(July 27, 2005) The congregation at the Woodside Village Church is keeping busy this summer. Guest preachers are leading Sunday services while members fine-tune the want ad for a new pastor to lead the church. The church's previous leader, Rev. Robert Hammerton-Kelly, retired in June of last year.
Kids have been collecting tube socks full of loose change to buy warm socks for children in South Africa. And the community is invited to join a lunchtime potluck barbecue following the 9:30 a.m. Sunday worship service on July 31.
Special guests at the potluck are members of the Stanford University football team, said Village Church member Sandy Pugh. More than a dozen of the burly players lent their strength to the church's last rummage sale, fetching and carrying items.
The guest preacher that Sunday will be Jim Stump, the football team's chaplain.
Church member Wayne Laroque will be at the potluck to collect the sock donations, and plans to leave that very evening for Bloemfontein, South Africa, where he'll personally deliver the proceeds to needy kids there, Ms. Pugh said.
For information, call the church at 851-1587.
