No early birds here
Woodside Town Council members ran into a snag when volunteers were sought to serve on the board of a regional traffic group. Namely, the 8 a.m. meeting time.
It's not that the Peninsula Traffic Congestion Alliance doesn't do a swell job, council members said at the July 12 meeting. It's just that they have so many other commitments. And that meeting time is just so darn early.
None of the six council members present volunteered. Councilwoman Carroll Ann Hodges vocalized a sentiment that her colleagues appeared to share: "I already do one at 8 a.m., and I'll never do another one," she declared.
Desperately seeking seniors
Are you old? And do you like animals? Then, boy, does the Peninsula Humane Society have a proposition for you!
Now through August 7, the animal shelter is holding "A Touch of Gray Days" to encourage seniors to adopt animals. People age 55 or older can adopt animals for $20, half the regular adoption price for seniors. Seniors who adopt older animals (age 5 or over) get a double-discount adoption rate of $10.
At the moment, the shelter has an unusually large supply of adoptable animals, particularly cats, said spokesman Scott Delucchi. Call 340-7022, ext. 703.
Take the last train from Atherton
At least Caltrain commuters will not have to face the end of train service to the Atherton station un-caffeinated. As a farewell to commute service, the town is offering free coffee drinks to loyal riders on the last four weekdays before the new Caltrain schedule goes into effect August 1.
Atherton Councilman Jim Janz, an indefatigable advocate of the town's train service, said information on efforts to restore commute service will be served up along with the java.
Atherton riders are not being abandoned entirely. A 24-passenger shuttle will ferry them to the Redwood City train station during commute hours.
