Election 2005: Two incumbents file for Portola Valley school board seats Election 2005: Two incumbents file for Portola Valley school board seats (August 03, 2005)

By Marjorie Mader

Two incumbents -- Donna Carano and Ray Villareal -- have filed for election to a second, four-year-term on the governing board of the Portola Valley School District.

But, no one has stepped forward yet to file for the third opening on the elementary district's school board.

Trustee Deborah Rappaport had announced earlier in the spring she would not be a candidate for re-election to a four-year term.

Queries to a dozen parents in the district during recent weeks didn't produce any potential candidates who might be waiting in the wings or even thinking about running.

No one showed up when the district held an information night for potential board candidates last May.

The general feeling is that parents are pleased and comfortable about how the district is running under the administration of Superintendent Anne Campbell and principals Joel Willen at Corte Madera and Eva Gal at Ormondale.

Ms. Carano, president of the board, was the first candidate to file July 18. Mr. Villareal filed for his second term July 27 after returning from vacation.

Since incumbent Rappaport will not be a candidate, the filling period will be extended five days Wednesday, August 17, at 5 p.m..
