Tour de Peninsula supports Bike Sunday Tour de Peninsula supports Bike Sunday (August 03, 2005)

San Mateo County will host the 12th annual Tour de Peninsula, a 33-mile bike ride on Sunday, August 7, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Sequoia Union High School in Redwood City.

Riders who take the 33-mile route have four rest stops. There are two shorter routes of 17 and 21 miles.

The ride costs $35 for adults and $15 for kids under 16 who pre-register. For $5 more, riders can register the day of the event, beginning at 6:30 a.m.

Proceeds will support Bike Sunday, a program that closes Canada Road, between Edgewood Road and Highway 92, each Sunday -- excluding holidays and rainy days -- for car-free biking, jogging, skating and walking. The program is sponsored by the San Mateo County Parks and Recreation Foundation, based in Menlo Park.
