Woodside's Byrnes now at Baltimore Woodside's Byrnes now at Baltimore (August 03, 2005)

July has been a journey east for Woodside native and major league outfielder Eric Byrnes, recently of the Oakland A's and the Colorado Rockies and now with the Baltimore Orioles.

In his second game with the Orioles on Sunday, Byrnes found his groove, going three for five with a single, a double and a home run.

After seven years with the A's, including the better part of three seasons as a major leaguer and his best career year so far in 2004, Byrnes was sent to the Rockies on July 14, two days after the All-Star break.

With the Rockies, a National League team, Byrnes batted under .200.

Byrnes played for the Morey's Little League team from 1985 to 1988 and the team retired his number -- Morey's #9 -- at Ford Field in Portola Valley last year.
